MG Cyberster: A 536-Horsepower Electric Sportscar Debuts

The MG Cyberster made its long-awaited debut at the 2023 Shanghai Auto Show, marking MG’s return to its sports car roots and the introduction of its first fully electric sports car. While complete specs and performance figures are yet to be released, some key details about the MG Cyberster have been revealed by the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).

MG’s Cyberster is not limited to the Chinese market; the company plans to launch it in key automotive markets such as Europe and the UK in 2024. There is even a possibility of it being considered for an Indian launch in the future.

The MG Cyberster embodies a sporty and exotic design with a European flair. It is a two-seat sports car featuring a convertible fabric roof that elegantly tucks behind the seats when not in use. The car boasts scissor doors, reminiscent of Lamborghini, adding to its sporty character. The front end is aggressive, with flared wheel arches and wide rear haunches, creating a sophisticated and sporty appearance. The car’s aerodynamic cuts and creases contribute to its overall appeal, and it rides on 20″ alloy wheels. At the rear, there are connected LED tail lights and arrow-shaped LED elements doubling as turn indicators.

Inside the MG Cyberster, you’ll find a leather-clad interior with multiple trim and color choices likely to be offered. The steering features a yoke design, which offers an unobstructed view of the triple display layout, although this steering style can be less convenient for some drivers.

While specific battery details are not yet available, the Cyberster will be offered in two powertrain configurations: a single-motor rear-wheel-drive layout with around 310 bhp and a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup with approximately 536 bhp. With brisk acceleration and an expected range of up to 400 km on a single charge, the MG Cyberster is poised to be a sensational electric sports car.

As MG releases more information about the Cyberster’s specifications and performance, it’s likely to generate even more excitement among electric vehicle enthusiasts and sports car aficionados alike.
