Canoo Powers Up Production: LDV Electric Vans Roll Off the Line in Oklahoma

Posted on

Canoo, the innovative electric vehicle (EV) startup, has officially begun deliveries of its Lifestyle Delivery Vehicles (LDV) from its newly established manufacturing facility in Oklahoma City. The initial batch of LDVs was handed over to the state of Oklahoma, marking a significant milestone for Canoo’s expansion and its phased-ramp manufacturing approach.

The LDV, built on Canoo’s versatile Multi-Purpose Platform (MPP), is offered in both passenger and cargo van configurations. The LDV’s unique design and functionality have captured the attention of the EV market, making it a standout option for commercial use.

Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt expressed pride in the state’s return to vehicle manufacturing, emphasizing that Canoo’s presence highlights Oklahoma as an ideal hub for cutting-edge businesses and job creation.

Canoo’s investment of $320 million in the Oklahoma City and Pryor facilities is set to create over 1,300 jobs, a welcome boost for the local economy. The LDV is particularly noteworthy as it represents Oklahoma’s first commercial motor vehicle production since 2006.

While the exact number of LDV units delivered to Oklahoma remains undisclosed, Canoo is gearing up for increased production, with plans to deliver “increasing units” in the coming year. The company’s commitment to job creation and investment aligns with the incentive agreements finalized earlier this year with the state of Oklahoma and the Cherokee Nation, totaling up to $113 million over a decade.

Canoo’s foray into the electric vehicle market extends beyond the LDV, as evidenced by the recent unveiling of the American Bulldog, an electric pickup designed for rugged applications. Derived from the Screaming Eagle model, which underwent testing with the U.S. Army in 2022, the American Bulldog adds a robust dimension to Canoo’s electric vehicle lineup.

As Canoo continues to make strides in the EV industry, including ongoing hiring efforts in Oklahoma and Pryor, the LDV’s successful rollout positions the company for a dynamic future. With a focus on sustainable mobility and groundbreaking designs, Canoo is proving that Oklahoma is not only the “Sooner State” but also a prime location for shaping the future of electric transportation.

Stay tuned for updates on Canoo’s production capacity, delivery numbers, and its evolving role in the electric vehicle landscape as the company transforms the automotive industry from its base in the heartland of America.
